How can I extend my desktop display to an iPad using Remote Desktop or alternative solutions?

I am interested in using my iPad as a secondary monitor for my Windows PC. I have tried using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop app, but it logs me off from my primary monitor and only shows the screen on the iPad. I want to be able to use both screens simultaneously. Is there a way to configure Remote Desktop to allow this, or are there other apps that can achieve this functionality?
